News from the Mercy Fund

Naamah Smith has taken over as the new Coordinator when Kayra Niebur finished working with the Mercy Fund last month.

Naamah writes:

We thank Kayra for 3 years of developing the Mercy Fund ministry and pray for God’s
blessing on her as she completes her university studies.

Kayra created the ‘Project of the Month’ whereby we partner with an existing ministry
from the Land, supporting and encouraging them. In this way we are able to link with
people, families and organizations, helping many. We are glad that Kayra remains part of the Mercy Fund committee.

Last December the Project of the Month was a pro-life organization. With your generosity we were able to make a donation to support 3 babies for the first year of life. In particular, we thank our deacon’s teenage daughter who sold her handmade festive chocolates to support this project.

Last month we helped people from different communities of Israeli society: a stateless woman, a Messianic family in crisis, a Palestinian man, a new immigrant, Arab women from the Old City and others.

We partner with various organizations to help people in need. For example, this month we contacted Bridges for Peace which helped to renovate an Israeli family apartment. We also have referred a woman who was homeless for the past 14 years to Machase ministry and now she has shelter.

Apart from financial assistance, it is important for us to find additional ways to aid the person who comes to us, such as with employment counseling, referral for emotional therapy and advice regarding civil rights.

   NEWS FROM THE HERITAGE CENTRE

We were delighted to have Idan Pinchas, Director of the Heritage Centre as guest speaker at our Autumn Meeting. Idan, a Jewish believer in Yeshua from an Orthodox Yemenite background, leads the team who explain the history of Christ Church and share their faith with thousands of Israelis who visit the Heritage Centre each year.

Idan writes ........

Lately we have been busy in the Heritage Centre, mostly talking with people. There were a few events recently that drew hundreds of visitors at a time to talk and learn about our history and message. I had a two hour talk with about twenty five Israelis, sharing with them our faith. When I’m asked to explain what we believe, I turn to the prophets and explain that it was Jeremiah who spoke about a new covenant. That Jesus is not just wishful thinking, and that the Bible is the foundation, the unchanging rock and source of Jewish identity.

Many times we try to take an hour or two as a team of the Heritage Centre, just to pray and study together but we find it to be hard, as people will come looking for us, having questions about the faith and of course we stop our meeting and talk with them so we end up not meeting so often as we would like, but this is a good problem, I guess.  I'm looking for ways to push the Heritage Centre forward.

I feel very needy before God and this reminds me again how dependent we are on HIM. We are a team of three in the Heritage Centre and are looking forward to having two volunteers joining us soon, God willing and in His time.

There have been some very rainy days in Israel, which we are very thankful for. It reminds me of the grace of God and His faithfulness that washes everything away when it comes and refreshes us, may it be in spirit as well as in the physical. We are preparing for Christmas, as many will come to Christ Church as happens each year. We are an open door in Jerusalem and pray that we could reach those who come in a deep way and are putting our hope in Him who is more than able!

YOURS IS THE KINGDOM, POWER AND GLORY

We were delighted to have Rev Aaron Eime, Deacon of Christ Church Jerusalem, with us for a week of deputations in September. This was Aaron’s forth visit to Ireland and he had a busy itinerary speaking in ten different venues over the course of the week.

On Saturday 8th September, at a CMJ day in Knockbreda Parish, Aaron gave two teaching sessions, “Yours is the Kingdom Power and Glory”, the Hebraic Roots of the Lord’s Prayer - exploring the nature and subject of prayer at the time of Jesus. After lunch he spoke on “Hear and Obey,” reading from Deuteronomy chapter 6. “Hear O’Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is One”. This verse from Deuteronomy 6:4 serves as the centrepiece of the morning and evening prayer in the Jewish Daily Prayers.   The Prayer, known as the Sh’ma, is more than a simple prayer or public declaration, it is an oath of loyalty to the One God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The word Sh’ma שְׁמַע is a powerful Hebrew word meaning ‘to listen’ or ‘to hear’ and is also the Biblical Hebrew word that is used for ‘to obey’. The implication is that if we heard the Voice of the LORD we would put those words into practice.         Pat Davidson

“Atonement, Sacrifice, Temples and Tabernacles” was the topic when CMJ hosted a group of about 40 people in Holywood Parish Centre, some Parishioners and some from other Churches to hear Rev Aaron Eime who spoke at our two morning services last year. The meeting happened just 10 Days before Yom Kippur. Aaron shared some insights into how Jews prepare themselves for the day of Yom Kippur going about forgiving and saying sorry to their neighbours. He also talked to us about Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year; at this Festival they use the Shofar to pronounce a new beginning. Shofars were also used in the Bible to call people together and to warn them of something that was to come. Aaron also taught on the Feast of Tabernacles and the Temple in the Old Testament. It was a very informative evening with wonderful teaching on the Jewish Feasts and the Temple. After his talk we enjoyed refreshments and delicious Jewish Honey Cake.                       Joy Ryan, CMJ Parish Rep

The Kajiado Room was full to overflowing on Monday 10th September for CMJ’s Aaron Eime from Christ Church Jerusalem. Guests from a number of other local churches joined Ballyholme parishioners to hear reflections on the Lord’s Prayer from a Jewish-Christian perspective.   After a welcome from our own Pat Davidson, the rector of Grey Abbey, Canon Gill Withers, opened in prayer before a fascinating night of new insights unfolded. With us in Ballyholme for the fourth time, Aaron is a riveting speaker and you’re advised to remember his name for the next time he comes to Northern Ireland!                                           Canon Simon Doogan

We have recordings available for some of Aaron’s talks;

Charles Gardner is a Cape Town-born journalist who spent the early years of his career as a Fleet Street-based correspondent for the South African Press Association.
Celebrating the miracle of modern Israel on the 70th anniversary of her rebirth, the author focuses specifically on Britain’s role in the Jewish people’s remarkable restoration – both from a positive and negative point of view. He squarely addresses what has become a political ‘hot potato’ without flinching from controversy, arguing strongly for Israel’s legitimacy in the face of rising anti-Semitism.
Easy to read and understand, the narrative flows seamlessly through 28 inspirational chapters from background to the Balfour Declaration to powerful testimonies of Jews and Arabs who have found both reconciliation and peace through the Jewish Messiah, Jesus Christ.

More of Charles' writings:

Refined in the Fire
Light of Christ shines throu gh the darkness of Iran

Out of the fiery furnace comes forth faith as pure as gold. (1 Peter 1.7) And that is nowhere more evident than among the persecuted Christians of Iran, now home to the fastest growing and largest church network in the world.

Sign of the Times
The Church is in danger of not recognising God’s hand in Israel’s restoration.
